    Times-Tribune: BREAKING NEWS - Hodge pleads guilty to state charges (Oct 31 2013)

    Former Whitley County sheriff Lawrence Hodge was sentenced to 17 years and ordered to pay $335,188 in restitution Thursday in Whitley County Circuit Court. Shackled, handcuffed and chained, Hodge stood as Judge David Tapp read the 21-count indictment. The indictment charges Hodge with 12 counts of abuse of public trust exceeding $10,000 but less than $100,000, six counts of abuse of public trust less than $10,000, and three counts of tampering with physical evidence. Hodge then pleaded guilty to all counts as part of a plea agreement.

    Herald-Leader: Grand jury indicts Whitley Sheriff Lawrence Hodge on 21 felonies (Nov 9 2010)

    Whitley County Sheriff Lawrence Hodge has stolen hundreds of thousands of dollars in public money during his two terms in office, a local grand jury has charged. The grand jury indicted Hodge on Monday on 18 charges of abuse of public trust and three counts of tampering with physical evidence — all felonies. Most of the charges allege Hodge took money from accounts at his office, though some allege that he sold or gave away guns that had been seized in investigations. The charges of tampering with evidence allege that he failed to properly safeguard guns, knives or drugs that had been seized. Hodge began taking money his first year in office, in 2003, the grand jury charged ... The amount of money involved in the alleged thefts totaled about $350,000, Trimble said.

    Times-Tribune: Hodge sentenced to 15 years and 6 months (Sept 28 2011)

    • Count one charged him [Lawrence Hodge] with conspiring to obstruct, delay and affect ... commerce ... by extortion." On that count he was sentenced to 15 years and 6 months.
    • Count two charged him with using controlled substances without proper prescriptions. He was sentenced to 15 years and 6 months.
    • Count three charged him with conspiring with a former clerk/bookkeeper in the sheriff's office. He was sentenced to 15 years and 6 months.

    All sentences are to be served concurrently.
