WUSA 9: Prince George's County Deputy Sheriff George Rogers and Corrections Officer David Nkemtitah charged in inmate assault (Oct 10 2013)

Deputy Sheriff George Rogers and Corrections Officer David Nkemtitah were indicted on charges stemming from an assault of an inmate at the Department of Corrections in February, says Prince George's County State's Attorney Angela Alsobrooks. Rogers was indicted on one count of second degree assault and two counts of misconduct in office, according to Alsobrooks. Nkemtitah is charged with misconduct in office.

Alsobrooks says on February 4, Rogers was processing an arrestee into the jail when he allegedly became involved in a verbal dispute with the arrestee. Rogers then allegedly struck the arrestee in the head and dragged him into an isolated search room where he allegedly continued to assault him, according to Alsobrooks. Nkemtitah is accused of closing the door to the room in an attempt to conceal the alleged assault.

County prosecutors announced charges Thursday against George Rogers, a deputy sheriff, and corrections officer David Nkemtitah. In February Rogers beat up an inmate he was processing in the jail, taking him at one point into a search room to continue the assault, prosecutors said. Nkemtitah is accused of closing the door of the room in what prosecutors say was an attempt to conceal the assault. Both are charged with misconduct in office, and Rogers is charged with second-degree assault.
