Pullman police sergeant arrested on charges of sexual assault; charging docs released

    30 October 2018

The Pullman Police Department sergeant accused of first-degree custodial sexual misconduct with an 18-year-old Washington State University student was arrested by Washington State Patrol troopers this morning.

Longtime Sgt. Dan Hargraves was booked into the Whitman County Jail this morning and as of 7:30 a.m. remained at the jail.

Hargraves’ arrest comes on the heels of a nearly six-month long investigation that began in April when the student claimed she was sexually assaulted by an officer who gave her a ride home March 30.

The 18-year old student told police Hargraves allegedly sexually assaulted her at a Pullman park.

According to a department media release, the Pullman police are conducting an internal, administrative investigation of the allegations to determine whether Hargraves violated the rules of conduct, policies or procedures required of all Pullman Police Officers by the department.

Hargraves worked for the department for 19 years and has been a sergeant for 14 years.
