Default Grafton, WI: Woman handcuffed & arrested for 2 overdue library books

Heidi Dalibor of Grafton, WI, was arrested, handcuffed, take to the station & posed for a mug shot for reprehensible crime of having two-long overdue library books. Smoking Gun report on Heidi also shows copies of logs showing police harassment of other residents for overdue library books.

Technically this may have been a proper arrest, but this is getting pretty petty and ridiculous.

Smoking Gun: Book Her, Dan-O: Wisconsin woman, 20, arrested for two overdue library volumes

Obviously the Grafton, WI, police department is way overstaffed and in desperate need of a reduction in head count. When the cops are this desperate to find something "useful" due, it's time to get rid of a few. Since it apparently took two underworked cops (Officer Glenn Goodearle & Officer Cawley) to apprehend Heidi, -2 would be a good target for the first round of reductions.

Besides voicing your opinions here, you can also send your two-cents-worth to the Village president and to Police Chief Charles Wenton. No doubt they'll appreciate the email -- every day must be a slow day in Grafton.

Even European news outlets are picking this up:
Ananova (UK): Handcuffed for overdue library books

el Periódico (Spain): Detenida una mujer en Wisconsin por negarse a devolver dos libros de la biblioteca

& at least 6 other countries so far.
