Politics Extra: Democrats’ cameras seized by police at Chabot Town Hall meeting

Quote:
Hoping to prevent an embarrassing Youtube video from making the rounds, Republican Congressman Steve Chabot of Ohio ordered police to confiscate cameras from people attending a town hall meeting Monday night.

The result was two embarrassing Youtube videos that are sure to make the rounds

Apparently it's ok if their trusted supporters are taping, just not anyone else:

A Chabot spokesman said the had the cameras seized “to protect the privacy of constituents” at the event, although there were at least two media outlets at the North Avondale Recreation Center filming the meeting.

But David Little, a Cincinnati Democrat working with ProgressOhio, a liberal organization, and Liz Ping, a Democrat who ran unsuccessfully for the Ohio House last year, were taking video at the event. Little was using an iPhone video camera while Ping, who was taping the meeting for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, was using a flip video camera mounted on a stand.
That didn't keep the "authorized" media from taping the debacle, where it still ended up on YouTube:

I had my cell phone held when I went to a movie recently. I guess it was so I wouldn't try to make a bootleg recording. It seems like they can ask for your recording devices at any time. You have the option not to attend.
