The incident occurred March 3, 2007. Apparently the local authorities are unable to police their own, hence the federal intervention.

Irma Marquez was body-slammed to the floor and then misprosecuted for obstruction.

The NY Times has picked up the story: Officer Indicted for Injuring Yonkers Woman

Now that the case is getting some federal attention & will be beyond the control of the locals, some of the locals are covering their butts. The Westchester County district attorney has demoted the prosecutor who handled the case locally, saying that "he made a call on that case that was wrong and unacceptable.":

The victim, Irma Marquez, was acquitted by a jury this past spring.

The story has also made the FBI's top 10 list of stories for the week ending Aug. 22, 2008:

Why would they bodyslam a woman, anyway?! Did someone not get their donut that day, or what? Too much testosterone there, and one easy target.
