Default Gaylord, MN: Latinos Claim Police Discrimination

Latinos in Gaylord, MN, are claim that police are discriminating against them through harassing traffic stops & home visits.

Another state's license is still valid in Minnesota even after a driver establishes residency.

"Families are disillusioned with the police because they stop Latinos based on their race but also because it costs them money," said Victor Contrerras, Centro Campesino's executive director.

Contrerras said community members feel police are making money off the backs of Latinos. A ticket for driving without a valid license brings a fine of $180.

Contrerras said the complaints will be filed [with the Minnesota Department of Human Rights] early next week.
But I believe it is still a citable offense not to have a MN licenses after a certain length of time? However, the police still need to have an articulable & reasonable suspicion that a crime has been committed in order to stop someone.

And the woman who is here illegally and driving unlicensed (and uninsured?) should not be driving!!!!

Sometimes you just can't tell anymore if it discrimination or not. I mean, I'm sure it happens, but every race seems to feel like they are singled out, even when they have done wrong.
