Police spokesman Tom Walsh says the proliferation of media outlets on the Internet has blurred the lines between the press and the general public.

Walsh said that made it difficult for law enforcement to distinguish between working journalists, bystanders and demonstrators during the RNC.
Too bad. If your officers are unable or unwilling to make the necessary distinctions, get rid of them and hire some who are capable of doing the job & being decent public servants. There were just too many instances of journalists deliberately attacked and harassed for this pathetic explanation to hold any water.

Their spin & rationalizations get weaker by the day.
