The following report confirms that an off-duty Fullerton police officer was arrested for stealing an Apple iPad at a Miami International Airport TSA checkpoint last month. According to court documents, FPD Officer Kelly Mejia was caught on surveillance video taking an $800 iPad from another passenger just after it had passed through the x-ray machine in the presence of TSA security agents.

The 25-year-old cop was spotted on surveillance video placing the iPad in her carry-on bag after taking it from a bin adjacent to a metal detector, according to Miami-Dade police, who add the $800 device was later plainly visible in Mejia's purse.

[Kelly] Meijia, who is said to have told Miami cops she found the iPad, has already pleaded not guilty to third-degree grand theft and is due back in court Aug. 29.

After viewing surveillance video of the incident, officers located Mejia and saw the iPad in "plain view in her purse," according to the arrest report.

Mejia told police she found the iPad, according to the arrest report. When she was asked what she planned to do with it, the report quotes Mejia as saying, "Keep it."

"She had seen the iPad in the bin and placed her bag of check in over it and walked away with it," the report stated.
